Bio

Corpus’s current work consists of large and small-scale portraits on paper of Rio Grande Valley youth, a region that is on the Texan side of the US/Mexico border. The works are constructed from branches found near the Rio Grande River and water from the River itself. The branches are charred into sticks of charcoal and the water is sprayed, poured, and splattered onto the surface of drawings.

His intent is to embody the spirit and dual-nature of the people represented through material. The culmination is an identity that is multi-national and unique to the region, but also carries with it a significance that unifies all persons- the hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon.

Corpus was born and raised in Corpus Christi, TX, the son of Mexican immigrants. He is a US Marine Veteran, having made a transition from boots to brushes, and also has his MA in Studio Art from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. He now resides in Mcallen, TX and is an Art Instructor with South Texas College.
